Musiq Soulchild (born Talib Johnson on September 16, 1977 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania), is an American neo soul and R&B artist, and was one of the most popular artists on the Def Soul label. In 2001, he dropped the "Soulchild" from his moniker and began referring to himself simply as "Musiq", stating that he had not yet mastered his craft, and thus was not yet "music's soulchild". However, he reassumed the "Soulchild" surname with the release of the song B.U.D.D.Y. in 2007. Besides being a successful recording artist, Musiq is notable for his disregard for normal rules of capitalization, punctuation, and spelling, which can be seen in the titles of his singles and his albums.
Musiq Soulchild made his first mark in 2000 on the charts with Just Friends from his platinum album Aijuswanaseing (I Just Want To Sing). His second single Love also made the charts. His second album Juslisen (Just Listen), released in 2002, also went platinum. It debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 2
