, 1858]]Franz Liszt (; ) (October 22, 1811 – July 31, 1886) was a Hungarian composer, virtuoso pianist and teacher.Liszt became renowned throughout Europe for his great skill as a performer during the 19th century. He is said to have been the most technically advanced and perhaps greatest pianist of all time.An indication of this can be found in: Saffle: Liszt in Germany, p.209. Regarding the 1840s Saffle wrote, "no one disputed seriously that he [1] was the greatest living pianist, probably the greatest pianist of all time." Since Saffle gave no sources, his statement can only be taken as his own point of view. He was also an important and influential composer, a notable piano teacher, a conductor who contributed significantly to the modern development of the art, and a benefactor to other composers and performers, notably Richard Wagner, Hector Berlioz, Camille Saint-Saëns, Edvard Grieg and Alexander Borodin.As a composer, Liszt was one of the most prominent representatives
